Jim L. King MoASSP High School Principal of the Year

Open to administrators who have been in the same high school for three years or more.
Each MoASSP district may select one individual to be recognized at the annual fall conference and one of those individuals will be selected as the MoASSP High School Principal of the Year and will be recognized at the spring conference and entered in the NASSP Principal of the Year Program.

 

Jim L. King MoASSP Middle Level Principal of the Year

Open to administrators who have been in the same middle school for three years or more.
Each MoASSP district may select one individual to be recognized at the annual fall conference and one of those individuals will be selected as the MoASSP Middle-Level Principal of the Year and will be recognized at the spring conference and entered in the NASSP Principal of the Year Program.

Exemplary New Principal (1-3 years in the profession)

Open to administrators who have completed no more than three years as a principal.
Each MoASSP district may select one individual to be recognized at the annual fall conference.

MoASSP Assistant Principal of the Year

Open to administrators who have been in the same position as assistant principal for three years or more.  Each MoASSP district may select one individual to be recognized at the annual fall conference and one of those individuals will be selected as the MoASSP Assistant Principal of the Year and will be entered in the NASSP Assistant Principal of the Year Program.

MoASSP/Walsworth Publishing Company Consummate Professional

Criteria:  The Recipient must:

  • Be a practicing principal or assistant principal
  • Be a member of the respective District Association and MoASSP
  • Be an active principal or assistant principal for at least five years

 

Other criteria to consider should include, but not limited to:

  • Contributions to the school and the community
  • Demonstrates leadership in improving student achievement
  • Demonstrates leadership to the principalship and MoASSP
  • Ensures the school climate is positive and reflects high staff and student moral
  • Is respected by students, colleagues, parents and the community at large
  • Serves as a formal or informal mentor to new principals

The Missouri Association of Secondary School Principals (MoASSP) seeks to recognize exemplary performance among secondary school principals who have succeeded in providing high-quality learning opportunities for students. Nominations for the awards may be submitted by colleagues, parents, students, or self-nominated.  Nominees will be directed to their regional president. 

General Criteria:

  1.   Serves as an active, full-time administrator at the time of district or state selection

  2.   Is a member of MoASSP (and NASSP for consideration at the national level)

  3.   Demonstrates a positive impact on education and advocacy for students

  4.   Ensures the school climate is positive and reflects high staff and student morale

  5.   Demonstrates creativity and imagination in bringing about positive change

  6.   Willing to take risks to improve student learning

  7.   Moves actively to implement the goals and objectives of the school

  8.   Works collaboratively with staff to improve the educational program and student achievement

  9.   Anticipates emerging problems and acts effectively to resolve them

  Involves the community in the life of the school and uses community resources for students
